On Thursday, November 2nd 2017 we kicked off session one of our five part series of trainings. The series, “Practical Solutions to Today’s Nonprofit Governance Challenges” take place on a monthly basis at Governance Matters’ office in Midtown and are facilitated by NYCON staff. Thursday’s session was entitled “Duties and Responsibilities of a Nonprofit Board of Directors” and was presented by Susan Weinrich, MS CED. Susan is the Senior Vice President of Organizational & Community Development at NYCON.

We had a packed house at our first session, with 27 registrants. Many of the attendees were board members looking to elevate the governance capability of their board. One participant said “our board does not have proper compliance measures in place” and another participant said “I’m a board member and I wish to improve my board.” Susan’s power point presentation was excellent, highlighting the best practices of a nonprofit board. There were many great questions asked and Susan encouraged the attendees to take 15 minutes out of their next board meeting to distribute the power point from this workshop and discuss it.
