Board service is rewarding for many reasons. Certainly the appeal of giving your time, talent and treasure to a nonprofit or community you care about has its own intrinsic reward. In addition to that, board members can expect professional growth, networking opportunities and perhaps even a certain level of recognition in the community.

Board service also carries with it a significant level of responsibility, of course. It is not a job that one should enter into without some education about what those responsibilities are.

Governance Matters, Inc., as a part of the “family” of nonprofit support services along with NYCON, can help you both connectto the right nonprofit board and empower you with the education, tools and resources necessary to be the most effective board member possible. In this workshop, Doug Sauer, CEO of Governance Matters and The New York Council on Nonprofits, Inc. (NYCON) will walk you through the steps of what it means to serve on the Board of Directors of a nonprofit organization.
